Hi it's Rowan,
Welcome back! I'm glad to see you've made it. The newsletter gained three new subscribers since last week! I am so grateful, thank you! I've got a lot to share with you...
Update on how I'm doing: pretty good. Although work-alcoholism tricks me into thinking I am not doing enough when I am not meeting a very narrow perception of what I've deemed to be "productive," I still feel good writing this to you now. I've set a system to track everything I do that I think enriches my life. I log each of those things in a journal and date it, sort of like an intellectual ledger. Though I say this makes me feel good right now as I'm writing this, I quickly used it against me just the other day. I was contrasting days and seeing that on this day I did yadda yadda but on this day when I did this I only did yadda, etc. It was a source of down feeling on myself and the people around me and frankly made me less enjoyable to be around. I am hoping to continue this practice of jotting down what enriches me more objectively.
Look Forward to This:
Right now, I'm on the seventh episode of Netflix's hit show Squid Game. Expect next week to have a nice, healthy, thoughts and comments on the series as a whole.
As of now, I'll leave with a bit of food for thought; Netflix isn't worried about the American market anymore. Everyone already has it. Netflix, by producing content all over the world and, subsequently dubbing that content in ~5 different languages, is dominating the streaming industry one country at a time! Very excited to see what other great shows/movies come out of this.
Things to check out this week:
If you're a fan of Fleetwood Mac, check out this breakdown of Dreams - youtube
So after watching this video, I sort of went down a music rabbit hole (oh so fun!). The video mentions this being one of the best breakup songs, and in the comments, someone mentioned the song Lover, You Should've Come Over by Jeff Buckley, which is a lovely song, and I would recommend giving it a listen. I did some digging after watching a set of his and found out he died while taking a swim fully clothed in the Wolf River Harbor singing a Led Zeppelin song. Pretty bizarre, right? It was ruled to be an accidental drowning as they found no drugs or alcohol in his system. His untimely death caused many tribute songs to be written, one of which by Chris Cornell titled Wave Goodbye. I don’t know man, thought all that was pretty neat.
This documentary discusses the life of the late, great, and regrettably young actor Anton Yelchin. I cried my eyes out pretty much this entire movie, start to finish. It is such a sweet telling of who he was, and I feel like I really connected with him. In 2016, he died at the age of 27, having completed nearly 70 different films. I commend him. If you don't want to be super sad (it's not like I want to be sad, but it was a very cathartic experience for me) or maybe you don't like documentaries check out his performance in the movie Green Room, where he tries to escape from Sir Patrick Stewart.
I'm sure you've at least heard of the movie Dead Poets Society but the opportunity to watch it is right at your door. I don’t know for how long, but it's free to watch right now on YouTube! I have a couple of thoughts on the opening scene; however, these young boys are going off into this preparatory school, and they're crying about it. They don't want to go (these aren't the main characters shown but actual little boys), they might be crying for a number of reasons, but I really doubt that any of the(se fictional) parents stopped to talk to them about why they were crying. I don’t know why but it bothered me. These, again albeit fictional, boys probably went on to stuff those feelings down. Also worth noting that regardless of how proactive a conversation on toxic masculinity this one scene prompts, there is a near date rape of which the perpetrator is subsequently rewarded, so that's a bit off-putting.
What I've got for ya:
If you missed a live stream of mine, I've uploaded them to the Gamer's Wishbone YouTube channel! It's a pretty chill time, and I think I'm pretty funny, so go and correct me in the comments! Having completed my original goal of beating the Champion's Ballad, I think I'll spend some streams working on some of the side quests I still have left to do.
Take-Aways:
Newsletter be growing? Maybe? Gosh oh golly, I hope so! Please share this with a friend to help me out!
Work-alcoholism is a bitch and can cause you to act like an ungrateful one
